Department of English In today's age of globalization, information and technology, English as 'lingua franca' plays a predominant role in the growth and development of society. Having this understanding, the Department of English of Govt. College Jukhala endeavours to evolve more effective and culture specific innovative pedagogy for classroom teaching to cater to the multi-layered complexion of the students. The faculty teaches students to think critically about their use of the English language, both spoken and on the page. Students learn how to read a variety of texts literally, aesthetically, analytically and historically. The department works to achieve its goals by fostering substantial understanding of literature in English from various genres and time periods and by teaching students to comprehend the relation between literature and culture as well as the structure and history of the English language itself. The department is committed to inculcate effective communication skills in students to enhance their employability. The department encourages students to think deeply and to reflect on what they have learnt. It teaches the students that the foundation of all writing and literary traditions is the bedrock of their human inheritance. It has been working towards enriching and strengthening literary and language studies by teaching regular as well as ability enhancement courses as diverse as British Literature, English Language Teaching, American Literature, Contemporary Literature, Colonial and Post Colonial Literature, Indian Writing in English, Literatures in Translation, Comparative Literature, Drama, Translation Studies, Cultural Studies, Regional Literature, Creative Writing and many more. As a quality sustenance, the department enables students to use language creatively, powerfully, and compellingly to succeed in all endeavours of life.
