Economics is a social science concerned with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. It studies how individuals, businesses, governments, and nations make choices about how to allocate the scares resources among various sector of the economy. It focuses on the actions of human beings, based on assumptions that humans act with rational behaviour, seeking the most optimal level of benefit or utility. More precisely, it is the study of scarcity and its implications for the use of resources, production of goods and services, growth of production and welfare over time, and a great variety of other complex issues of vital concern to society.
The department of economics offers a variety of courses at undergraduate level which comprises; Principle of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Basic Statistics and Mathematics, Development Economics, International Economics, Money and Banking, Public Finance, Basic Econometrics and Indian Economy and related current issues.Generally, the main purposes of a bachelor degree program in economics is; to introduce the basic economic principles, concepts, and theories among students and also to create awareness among them about the Indian as well as world economy through discussion on various current economic issues, up-to-date facts, and leading policy concerns.
